Black Forest and Bodensee – September 15, 2015

After our adventurous day in Baden Baden, the next day was the start of our southern Germany road trip. We took a bus back to the train station and walked to the car rental agency from there, where we got a white BMW with GPS. Soon we were off through the Black Forest.

The route took us through numerous pretty villages. We first stopped in Triberg to have lunch at Cafe Schaefer and to try the famous–and original recipe–Black Forest Cake. It was delicious.

Then we left the forest for the Bodensee. We took a ferry over Lake Konstanz to Meersburg. From the ferry port, it was an easy walk to see both Meersburg Castle (the Old Castle) and Neues Schloss Meersburg (the New Castle).

We continued our road trip with an easy drive down the lake. At Lindau, we parked our car off the island, and walked through the gorgeous little town to the end where there was a beautiful lighthouse.

After Lindau, we continued our drive to Fussen, where we checked into our hotel, Ruchti’s. We ate dinner here; I had the pineapple chicken with cheese, which was a nice break from currywurst and schnitzel.
